The passion
flower is an herb that's known for its sedating power. Also called
Purple Passion Flower, Maypop and Passion Vine, the passion flower
comes in over 150 species, all of which can be researched online.
Legends surround the passion flower.
One of best known is that a Jesuit priest in 1620 stumbled upon
some passion flowers and he saw in them the elements of Jesus' crucifixion.
Looking at the passion flower, he saw the apostles, the nails that
held Jesus to the cross, the crown of thorns that was on His head
and the Lord's goblet, which He drank from during the Passover feast,
which is commonly referred to as The Last Supper. Thus the name,
"passion flower", referring to the suffering of Christ.
Passion flowers are easy to grow, although
they don't tolerate damp, cold climates well because they tend to
get root rot. However, they do quite well on the rain forest floor.
If you can duplicate that climate, somewhat, you will have a passion
flower garden that flourishes! Shopping for a passion flower online
will give you the chance to learn all about it prior to making a
purchase. The many varieties can be researched on the Internet,
which will help you to make an educated choice.
